Tarleton rodeo teams clinch first place positions

Tarleton rodeo continued its winning tradition this year with both the men's and women's teams clinching the first place titles this past weekend at the last regular season rodeo, held at the Lone Star Arena here in Stephenville.
Rodeo Coach Mark Eakin led both teams to victory in the Southwest Region with the men's team having a total of 4,230 points, beating out Vernon College with 3,575 points. The women's team totaled 2,813.33 points leading over Western Texas College with a respectable 2,205 points.
Chase Williams won the men's all around title with a total of 925 points. Williams also won the men's tie down roping title earning 525 points, and took fifth heading in the team roping.
In the women's all around, Cassie Ward clinched the title with 1,100 points, placing in both the barrel racing and goat tying. Following right behind her in second was teammate Kody Engle with 915 points, who placed in barrel racing and breakaway roping, and won the breakaway roping event with 570 points.
Harve Stewart, took the bull riding title earning 705 points. Stewart won five out of the ten regular season rodeos, but has been unable to compete lately due to injury.
Tate Owens took second place in the saddle bronc riding year end earning 930 points. Also placing in the top 15 in the saddle bronc riding are teammates Isaac Diaz, James Cawley, Lucas Butler, Cody Anthony, Justin Bell and Brazos Peacock. Also placing in the top 15 in the saddle bronc riding. Owens is also currently sitting number 30 in the Professional Rodeo Cowboy's Association standings.
Craig Wisehart took second in the year-end standings in the bareback riding event with a total of 735 points. Wisehart also competes in the PRCA and is sitting number 41 in the current standings. He also won a round at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo this year, and won the Mountain States Circuit in the PRCA last season.
Other Tarleton rodeo student members that placed in the top 15 were Katelyn Lide, Kayelen Helton, Lillian McMullan, Kylie Ward, Justin Brashear, Lance Millican, Cole Fincher, Jerel Ashton, John Hollabaugh, Kiel Rowan, Calvin Brevik, Clay Norell, Nick Rawlings, Blake Fontenot, Kayelen Helton, KC Curtis, Chad Williams, Phylicia Stewart, Michelle Allison, Fran Surles, Cassie Vierstra and Cheyenne Motley.
Tarleton rodeo teams have won six national championship titles and 16 individual national championships. It is also one of the largest teams in the nation with 104 card holding student members in the 2009 - 2010 season.
