SENATE BRIEF
Six members of the Student Government Association attended the 28th annual Conference on Student Government Associations at Texas A&M University in College Station last weekend. Universities from around the world attended the conference, even as far as Saudi Arabia. At this week's SGA meetings, the group discussed their experiences from the conference.
Director of Financial Aid Betty Murray spoke Monday at the SGA Senate meeting and answered many questions concerning financial aid. She explained how students sign up, deadlines, and also how students have to follow FAFSA for scholarships. Around 79 percent of students receive financial aid each year, including scholarships.
The SGA also conducted an online poll of the students to find out the top ten campus concerns. They are in order as follows: Financial aid, academic advising, health center, academic support, scholarships, SI and tutoring, student publications, career services, student life, tuition and fee.
SGA Senate meetings are held on Mondays at 5:15 p.m. in room 219 of the Barry B. Thompson Student Center.
HOUSE BRIEF
The Student Government Association voted at meetings this week on teachers they wished to receive the Barry B. Thompson Award. The SGA Senate nominated Dr. Jennifer Edwards and the SGA House of Representatives nominated Dr. Janis Petronis. The SGA House also funded the Tarleton Chemical Society $500 to travel to the American Chemical Society national meeting in San Francisco.
SGA also held its annual presidential dinner on Wednesday in the Dining Hall. Plans and details for Tarleton's 20/20 plan, which is a ten year plan on expanding the campus, were discussed.
Meetings for the SGA Senate are held on Mondays at 5:15 p.m. in room 219 of the Barry B. Thompson Student Center and SGA House meetings are held Wednesdays at 5:15 p.m. in Science Room 102. Meetings are open for the Tarleton community to attend.
