Out this month on Molotov Music, the new EP from Game Rebellion entitled "Sounds Like A Riot" is seven tracks of hip-hop and groove infused hard rock. That description, however, still fails to fully encompass the variety of musical influences on this album.

A front man reminiscent of an angry version of Outkast's Big Boi, and a backing band that will give you flashbacks to early Nine Inch Nails, it is hard to classify this band into any specific genre; however, everyone from hip-hop to punk-rock kids will have fun with this record. Blasting out socially conscious lyrics laid down over some of the funkiest, grooviest, hard rock to ever blow through your speakers, it is hard to compare this band to anything you have ever heard before. That lack of familiarity, however, is nothing to be scared of. This is without a doubt one of the most ambitious, and flat-out fun, records of the year, thus far.

Hailing from Brooklyn, Game Rebellion has been bobbing heads and smashing through the boundaries of mainstream music. This record is nothing if not ambitious, and when a gamble of this level is taken it rarely turns into a win; but, that is absolutely not the case with "Sounds Like A Riot." Not many bands are willing to tread into the lyrical or musical waters that Game Rebellion jump head first into on this record; but, leaving the competition struggling for breath while the band tears through the finish line like Michael Phelps is the payoff for playing by no one's rules but their own. I rate this album four out of five stars.
