Senate
Dr. Wanda Mercer, vice president for Student Life attended this week's Senate meeting and discussed the possibility of increasing the student services fee. The fee increase would have to pass both the Student Government Association House and Senate, and will be presented in the spring.
The Senate approved five election code amendments, one constitutional amendment, two bills, one of which was amended before it was approved, and one resolution.
The SGA Senate meetings take place at 5:15 p.m. each week on Monday in Room 219 of the Thompson Student Center. All students and faculty are welcome to attend the meetings.
House
The Student Government Association House of Representatives held their final meeting for the semester Wednesday. The council discussed SGA Bill 09-02, which raised the requirements to run for SGA president and vice president.
In a previous meeting, the council approved the passing of this bill by a majority vote. The bill then went to the Senate, where it was amended and passed. Because the House approved the bill before it was amended, the SGA called a conference committee to finalize the approval. The committee, consisting of equal members from both the House and Senate, approved the amended version of the bill. Bill 09-02 was added to the election code.
In Wednesday's meeting, the council was asked to vote on approval of the amended bill to the organization's constitution. After much discussion, the council approved the bill.
Meetings will begin again next spring and will continue to be held on Wednesdays at 5:15 p.m. in Room 102 of the Science building.
