The Rams responded with a seven play, 87 yard drive that was ended by Rams' quarterback Josh Neiswander's 17-yard touchdown pass to Lacy with 4:57 left in the game. Smith made the extra point, making the score 21-14.
The Rams were driving in the closing minutes of the game with the aim on tying it up when Neiswander found Tidwell open in the middle of the field. Texan linebacker Marcus Phillips hit the receiver, forcing a fumble which was recovered by Texan McNeal Uwajeh with 3:05 left in the game.
With 1:25 left, the Texans faced a fourth and one on the ASU 49-yard line, Grantham ran a quarterback keeper to convert the fourth down attempt then kneeled the ball to finish the game with a Texan victory.
The Texans second leading rusher on the game was Evan Robertson who had 45 yards on 13 carries.
Linebacker Matt Knicky led the Texan defense with 12 total tackles and defensive end Jacob Rowe was second with eight tackles on the night.
Neiswander led the Rams with 233 passing yards after going 25-of-38 with one touchdown and one interception.
The Rams receiving corp was led by Bradan Ritchey with eight catches for 58 yards, while Lacy had five catches for 45 yards and two touchdowns. Dwight Pete led the Rams ground game with 38 yards on 11 carries.
The Texans return to action looking to maintain their first place standing on Saturday, Nov. 7, as they host rival West Texas A&M. The game has held playoff implications for the last four years and a victory this year would guarantee the first Texan playoff berth since 2003.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Memorial Stadium as the Texans aim to avenge the 51-0 blowout in the previous season.
