SENATE
The Student Government Association will be hosting the "Layers of H.O.P.E." philanthropy event on Wednesday, Nov. 18, from 8-10 p.m. in the Barry B. Thompson Student Center Ballrooms. They will be taking donations of canned food and clothes, which will be given to Project H.O.P.E.
The College of Science and Technology is looking into adding to the university budget the replacement of the dry-erase boards in the Science building.
HOUSE
The Student Government Association House of Representatives approved three funding requests in Wednesday's meeting, one of which will be the first to taken of next semester's budget.
The council is given $10,000 per academic year to help participating organizations fund events and conferences. This budget is split by semester, and after Wednesday's meeting, the fall balance sits at $831.27.
The first funding request was presented by Representative Angela Schmidt on behalf of the Texas Association of Family and Consumer Sciences at Tarleton.
She requested $226.45 to help finance travel, food, lodging and registration expenses for member participation in the TAFCS Leadership Retreat at Baylor University in Waco.
Next, Tarleton Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow Representatives Shay Smith and Brooke Williams petitioned the council for the maximum funding of $650 to finance the organization's National Professional Development Conference here at Tarleton. The House moved to approve the request; however, because the event will not be held until February, SGA bylaws require the organization be put first in line for funding in the spring, rather than receiving money from this semester's budget.
The final request was made by Representative Mallory Fontenot of Block and Bridle for $449. The allocated funds will be put towards the Holiday Classic, an organizational sheep and goat show held at the Horse Pavilion later this month.
The SGA House meets each week at 5:15 p.m. in Room 102 of the Science building. For more information, visit www.tarleton.edu/~sga.
