For the fourth consecutive year, FFA enthusiasts from 52 schools attended the Leadership Development Event Contest on Wednesday, hosted by Tarleton agricultural students.
Contestants competed in Junior and Senior divisions in Chapter Conducting, FFA Skills, Creed Speaking and FFA Quiz, along with FFA Radio, Ag Issues and Public Relations.
From registration to setting up the contest and from judging to tallying the results, Tarleton agricultural students planned the event. As future agricultural educators, communicators and industry leaders, Tarleton students utilized their skills to plan a beneficial event for young FFA members. Contestants polished their leadership and professional skills through the variety of events available, learning the meaning of leadership, dedication and teamwork.
"Hosting this event creates an opportunity for the students attending our event and also for the students involved in the planning," Calen McNett, co-chairman of the event, said.
"As agricultural education majors, our professor, Dr. [Kyle] McGregor, said it is something we are going to have to do in our future, and doing is the best way to learn," Gayle Spearman, co-chairman of the event, said.
