Following a strong defensive performance the Texans overcame rival school, Abilene Christian University Wildcats in the Homecoming game, Saturday. With the defeat of the formally number nine team in the nation Wildcats, the Texans control their own playoff destiny. While winning out will not guarantee the Texans a conference championship, it will lock the team into one of the two playoff berths.

Both of the defenses made the game a stark contrast to the Texan Homecoming loss to the Wildcats two years ago when ACU won 70-63. The Texans trailed 6-0 for the entire game until scoring 13 unanswered points in the fourth quarter for a 13-6 Lone Star Conference victory.

The Texan offense struggled after posting the worst ground display of the season as the Wildcats held them to negative 11-yards rushing in the game. Running back Roderick Smith was the only runner to post positive yardage in the game with 14 total yards on nine carries while Evan Robertson and quarterback Scott Grantham combined for ten carries and negative 25-yards.

Grantham passed for 199 yards after going 15-of-28 in the game on one touchdown and one interception for a combined 188 yards of offense on the game. Receiver Jahmeel Hobson had eight receptions for 144 yards and a touchdown.

The Wildcats gained 255 yards of offense with 63 rushing yards and 192 passing yards. ACU was held to only two field goals throughout the game as the Texans kept them out of the end zone.

The Wildcats scored first following a muffed punt from Texan Devin Guinn. ACU kicker Morgan Lineberry connected on a 20-yard field goal attempt with 8:32 left in the first half, 3-0.

With 50 seconds left in the first half the Wildcats connected on another Lineberry field goal from 20 yards out to cap off a 55 yard, 14 play drive to further the lead 6-0.

With 14:14 left in the game and the Texans trailing by six, Guinn returned a Wildcat punt 57 yards for a touchdown. On the ensuing extra point attempt a Texan personal foul forced the extra point attempt to be pushed back; the attempt was blocked and the game was tied, 6-6.
