Library extends hours for finals
Issue date: 4/23/09 Section: Entertainment
Starting the week before final exams, the Dick Smith Library will again extend its hours to help students prepare for the semester's end:
•From Sunday, April 26 to Wednesday, April 29 the library will remain open from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m.
•Library users will have access to full services, which include reference assistance, library item and laptop checkouts and access to all computer workstations.
Once finals begin on Thursday, April 30 the library will offer even longer hours:
•The library will be open 24 hours from 7 a.m. Thursday, April 30 through 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 2.
•Doors will re-open at noon on Sunday, May 3 and remain open until 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 6.
All library services and areas will be available from 7 a.m. to midnight each day. At midnight, the library will shift into extended-hours mode, and portions of the library and most services will be closed.
Library users will be able to use the entire upper level, which offers group study rooms, computer workstations, and a variety of study areas. Students will also be able to access the main level student lounge. In addition, late night library users will be able to check out laptops at the circulation desk.
To ensure everyone's safety during late night study, Tarleton IDs will be required for entry into the library. Everyone must sign in and out.
Signs for wireless connections, network lines and electrical plugs will help students locate places to work on library or personal laptops. To help students burn the midnight oil, the Sauve Café coffee bar will also extend its hours until midnight from Sunday, May 3 to Tuesday, May 5.
Last fall was the first time the Dick Smith Library offered 24-hour access to the library during finals week. Thanks to funding from Dr. Brad Chilton, Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the library was able to stay open for four straight days. Over 1,200 students took advantage of the extended hours last semester
