The Campus Corner, located on McIlhaney and Tarleton streets. The Alumni Association plans to use it for meetings and special occasions.

The Tarleton Alumni Association is planning to renovate the Campus Corner, located on at the corner junction of McIlhaney and Tarleton, to host meetings and special occasions. The Campus Corner is the second phase of the 'Coming Home Campaign,' which is a project to create a place for alumni when they visit Tarleton.

Currently, the Campus Corner is barren on the inside and outside. Some Tarleton memorabilia and other items from the Campus Corner were sold to help raise money for the renovation said Paul Koonsman, director of Alumni Relations at Tarleton State University.

Once renovated, the building will be decorated with Tarleton memorabilia and historical items for everyone to remember and observe Tarleton's history.
"It will have an old fashioned soda fountain and booths which will make a great place to visit and have a coke with someone you haven't seen in years," said Bonnie Peterson, associate director of the TAAalumni group.

John Pelham, TAA Presidentpresident of the alumni organization, said the Campus Corner will also be rented to the university, student and faculty organizations and the community.

"The Campus Corner used to be the main hangout for us students," said J. Louis Evans, a 1941 Tarleton graduate, said. The 'Corner' served hamburgers, sandwiches, cokes and ice cream. "My favorite meal was a hamburger and a coke," Evans said.
Throughout its history, the Campus Corner served many functions for Tarleton and Stephenville. "Over the years, it has been a barber shop, apartments and before it closed completely, a Greek gift shop," Koonsman said.

As a major part of Tarleton's legacy and impact on Stephenville, tearing down the building was never an option. The renovations are designed to have an atmosphere that will attract alumni, faculty, students and others to stop by and see what's happening at Tarleton.
"Most importantly, the Campus Corner is a place where Tarleton Alumni know 'the gates are always open,'" Koonsman said.
