Dr. Pati Hendrickson's Penology class is hosting a fundraiser called "Books for Crooks." The point of the fundraiser is to collect books to donate to the Mineral Wells Pre Parole Transfer Facility.

Hendrickson said the students in her class got the idea to collect books for inmates after a recent field trip to the corrections facility.

"The students saw how much the inmates were lacking a sustainable library and they wanted to do something to help give the inmates more of an option," Hendrickson said. "The prison doesn't receive any funding from the state as it is, so there is no way that the prison would be able to supply the prisoners with enough books to grow their library. This is where the students step in."

Hendrickson said drop boxes for the books will be set up on Thursday, April 9 in the O.A. Grant building, the Dick Smith Library, and the Barry B. Thompson Student Center.

"We will take any type of book that you want to give," said Hendrickson. "We have students cleaning out all of the books they have so we are taking anything from textbooks to the popular novels that are out there."

Hendrickson said the drop boxes will be set up until April 20 and the students in her class are going to drop the books off at the facility on April 24.
