Tarleton recently received a new look in the virtual world. Monday, a new website was released to provide easier navigation to find more information than before. Now, current and prospective students, faculty and staff can easily access information relevant to them.

The homepage has not received a facelift since 2005. It was first prompted by the Web Task Force, chaired by Dr. Brad Chilton. In 2007, Web Services developed several prototypes for the website based on the needs of the university community. According to University Web Administrator Daphne Hunt, "Functionality and ease of navigation were two of the most important aspects that Web Services kept in mind while creating the new look."

One of the problems with the old homepage was information was cluttered or hard to find. "Often times you had to search to find what you needed or you found a laundry list of links that were irrelevant," Hunt said. Discussions about revamping the website started in 2007 involving the Web Task Force, Website Advisory Committee and Web Services. Last August when Dr. Dottavio arrived on campus, Web Service narrowed down their focus and established the design.

A test version was released over Spring Break, which gave students a glimpse of the new look. Web Services was finally able to launch the new website and on Monday it became fully functional.

"We are very happy about releasing the new site, but are now continually working on adding new features," said Hunt.

Besides the obvious new look to the site, information is now organized so that you can better find web resources. Hunt was very excited about the facelift.

"All the new pages have a lot more pizzazz than before and provide better availability of information."

Additionally, there are many new features to the site. There is a slideshow and pictures and videos showcasing Tarleton. Links to find Tarleton on social networking sites and multimedia downloads can be found on the new Bleed Purple section.
