A lot has changed since then. I miss watching Bozo at 6 in the morning. I miss granny's awesome meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Now I basically live off of cereal and PB&J. I miss taking naps and playing in the yard. I guess all good things must come to an end at some point, but no good thing goes away forever.
Now-a-days I work in the same office I have worked in for almost four years now. I've seen a lot of faces come and go and made some very valuable friendships. My first year as an editor I experienced aliens, an MLK party and even the KKK coming to town. What a year that turned out to be.
The point is that I have grown in my tenure here at The J-TAC. I have learned tons of useful information from the four editors before me, and have had amazing work experiences. I have loved every minute of it, the up's, the down's, the late nights turned early mornings, it's all a big rollercoaster ride.
Now I have been dawned with the task of following in the footsteps of the best editor I have seen in my time here. While I am up to the immense task, I will have to work hard to top such a task.
Over the past year we have been trying to make it a priority to get organizational events into the news. I will strive to get more Greek, honor, service, etc. events into the newspaper but I can't do it alone. I need people from these organizations to send me information about an event they would like covered. Now I can't promise the event will always make it into that week's edition, but if I have the information, I can at least attempt to put it in that issue.
Also, I would like to hear from more of you, the Tarleton community. I want to hear what you like about the paper, what you don't like, what you think should change and so on. We value your input here and like to hear what you have to say.. Our editorial page is cold and lonely without your warm, toasty opinions.
Don't be shy, my e-mail address is st_cedeno@tarleton.edu and the number to my office is (254) 968-9056. Or, if you feel like it you can just drop by room 20 on the lower level of the Thompson Student Center and have a chat with me.
Have a great semester and remember the wise words of Andy Dufresne in the film Shawshank Redemption, "hope is a good thing, maybe the best thing, and no good thing ever dies."
Best movie of all time by the way.
