Texans drop the ball, miss playoffs

Buffalo wide receiver scored his second touchdown of the game with an eight-yard pass from Null to finish a 13-play, 80-yard drive that took 5:05 off the game clock and extended the lead to 31-0.

Following a Texan punt, Buffalo running back Flemming scored off a 50-yard run to cap off a four-play, 64 yard drive that took 1:36 and extended the Buffalo lead to 38-0.

The Buffaloes attempted an on-side kick, but Tarleton recovered it at their own 35-yard line, Grantham was intercepted on the drive by defensive back Darnel Johnson following three plays for two yards.

The Buffaloes' McKnight ran 57 yards for a touchdown on a two-play, 51-yard drive that took 46 seconds off the clock. The Buffaloes attempted a two-point conversion, but Matt Manely's pass was incomplete.

Following a fourth quarter turnover on downs, the Buffaloes' back-up quarterback Taylor Harris threw on a 13-yard pass to A.J. Ruffins for a touchdown following a 12-play, 73-yard drive that took 5:28 off the clock and Miguel Ruiz's extra point put the Buffaloes up 51-0 for the final score.

The Texans drove to the West Texas 37-yard line after three plays and 14-yards that left 1:13 on the clock, but a Grantham fumble turned the ball back over to the Buffaloes.

Grantham went 12-for-29 and two interceptions and the second straight game without a passing touchdown. He also had four fumbles, two of which West Texas recovered.

Evans carried the ball six times for 92 yards and no score as part of the Texans 158 total yards on the ground.

The Texans gained 292 total yards in comparison to the Buffaloes 578 yards of total offense, 253 yards on the ground and 325 yards passing.

McKnight had nine carries for 103 yards and two touchdowns while Flemming had 18 carries for 128 yards and two scores.

Null went 21-for-26 for 227 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions.

The Buffaloes' leading receiver, Johnson, had seven catches for 84 yards and two touchdowns.

This is the fifth straight season for the Texans to miss a playoff berth. Tarleton's five-year playoff drought comes despite being the only divisional program to get 70 wins since the 2000 season, according to Tarleton Sports Information.
