Texans take Southeastern Oklahoma by storm

Running back Roderick Smith got in on the scoring as well when he recorded a six-yard carry into the endzone for the Texans. Lindholm's kick made it 41-10 in favor of the purple and white who drove the field in five plays over 69 yards.
Lindholm then connected on his third field goal of the contest, ending an eight-play, 33-yard drive. The three-point kick put the Texans ahead 44-10 with 10:49 remaining in the game.
The last score came with six minutes on the clock when true freshman Eddie Brown carried the ball two times in three plays for a total of 49 yards, including a 24-yard touchdown run that saw the running back break through several would-be tacklers. The drive, which took four plays on 48 yards, was completed when Lindholm scored the game's last point with a chip shot after the score to put Tarleton ahead, 51-10.
McElroy was pleased with what he saw overall, but he, his coaching staff and the players know there is much work to be done.
"This was a good win for us to open the schedule, but there are several things we saw tonight we are going to have to improve upon in order to stay successful this year," McElroy said. "The win is nice, but we have a lot of work to do."
The Texans gained 373 yards while holding SOSU to 188 yards, including 46 yards on the ground. Tarleton threw the ball for 180 yards while SOSU had 142 yards passing. The Texans gained 193 yards on the ground.
Nine different people carried the ball for the Texans while four different runners crossed the goal line for the purple and white. Evans led the team with 15 carries for 66 yards and a score while Brown had five carries for 53 yards and a touchdown and Smith had 11 carries for 38 yards and a score.
Scott Grantham was seven of 17 passing for 148 yards and one touchdown to lead Tarleton to the victory.
Keith Demby led the team in catches with two for 67 yards while Prentice was two for 44, Eric Foreman was two for 39 and Devin Guinn, two for 23.
SOSU's Baylen Laury led the team with 15 carries for 62 yards while Brandon McCain was eight-of-19 for 139 yards and a touchdown. Most of his yards came on two plays, a 68-yard and a 27-yard toss.
Tarleton will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 6 at home against Northeastern State at 7 p.m. while the Savage Storm will travel to Midwestern State for a 7 p.m. kickoff in Wichita Falls.
