Despite a sluggish second-half, the TexAnns ( 3-0) managed to get their third win of the season. The loss dropped Cameron to 1-4 on the young season. This was the third straight win for the TexAnns over the Aggies who hold the all-time series lead, 9-4.
The TexAnns took a 14-point lead (38-22) into the locker room following the first half. Tarleton began the half on an 8-3 run after Kendal Reddell hit a three-pointer from the top of the circle. It was one of six three-pointers the TexAnns hit in the first-half. Cameron had 12 turnovers in the first-half that led to 18 Tarleton points. Kiendra Scott was the only highlight for the Aggies as she accounted for 16 of the 22 Aggie first-half points.
The TexAnns took their biggest lead of the game, leading 55-30 with 14:20 remaining, but a three-pointer and a lay-up by Kiendra Scott cut the lead to 19. The TexAnns would again get up by as many as 24 before the Aggies began a comeback.
Scott's made a lay-up with 12:08 left that cut the TexAnn deficit to 19 points. Tarleton's Meagan Curtis connected on a lay-up to give Tarleton a 68-44 lead with 7:55 remaining, but it would be the only bucket the TexAnns would make until the 4:53 mark. During those three minutes of play, the Aggies came within 12 points of Tarleton behind six of six shooting from the free-throw line. Tiffany Williams was good for two more free-throws and the TexAnn lead fell to just 10 points. But with 55 seconds remaining, Brittnie Haley made a lay-up to give Tarleton a 72-60 lead that would be too much for the Aggies to come from behind.
Haley had 17 points to follow Reddell's team-leading 19. Krystal Cole had eight rebounds to lead the TexAnns on the boards. Sonya Sundberg ran the offense and led the team with five assists.
Williams lead all scorers with 25 points on the night. She finished the game with a double-double collecting 10 rebounds on the night as well.
The TexAnns will be back on the court this Saturday night as they will host Southwestern Oklahoma. It will be Toys for Tots night and anyone bringing and unwrapped toy will receive free admission into the game. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. in Wisdom Gym.
