Christmas is a time to go home, sip some hot chocolate and sing a carol or two, but it is also a good opportunity to earn some extra cash. This is a great time for students who have time during the break between the two semesters. Department stores and restaurants are always looking for some seasonal help over the holidays because of the crazy Christmas rush.
"Any type of job we get, we post it on Tarleton Connection," said Angie Nimmo, Program Specialist of Career Services. Her advice was to get on the site and look around and if you wanted a certain job during a certain length of time, advertise yourself. As an example she talked about how the volleyball team is putting up people's lights as a fundraiser.
Nimmo said that several restaurants in the area were in dire need of wait staff, such as Circle T Promotions outside of Hamilton. She also said that Goody's Department store usually advertises needing seasonal help for the holiday season.
"I am babysitting and substitute teaching elementary school," said Krista Mower, an 18 year old Tarleton freshman who is going back home to Jacksboro for the holidays. Jonathon Crow, 20 year old freshman, says he is going to work a pulling unit in an oil field.
Most students go home for the holidays, so if you use to work somewhere when you were in high school ask if they need some help over the holidays. The less time a company has to spend training you, the better, especially during this time of year.
