The annual step show, "Ice Plex," was hosted by Alpha Phi Alpha in the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Many groups from around the state showed off their stepping skills and got audience members on their feet with lively music and energetic beats. Some of the groups acted out humorous skits. The groups performed in front of an almost full auditorium. The audience was mixed with Tarleton students and students from other state wide schools.

The Zeta Phi Betas also revealed the newest members of their sorority at the event. The four ladies, known as "the four unpredictable PearlZ," danced onto the stage wearing blue masks and were revealed one by one to cheering audience members. Sarah Bodden is now known as the "Blu UnforZable," Tiffany Byrd is "Blu XtaZy," Kendra Hagger is the "Blu AZZaZin," and Jennifer Page is known as the "Blu WhiZperer." The new members more than doubled the chapter's size.

Awards were given for the best stepping. The Prime Time Steppers received first place. The group's theme was called "The Hood Scouts." They parodied boy scouts in traditional Boy Scout uniforms. The Phi Beta Sigmas of Texas State received second for their '80s theme, complete with track suits and classic steps. Alpha Phi Alpha from Jervis Christian College received third. The Alpha Phi Alphas wore black jumpsuits and had a matrix theme. The Delta Sigma Thetas from A&M Commerce won first place in the sorority division for their Wild West theme. There was a rapper who preformed at the end of the show as the scores were tallied.

In between each group the master of ceremonies played music, and crowd members were encouraged to dance on the stage as the next group prepared to take the stage. A few Tarleton students participated, one of which was Phillip Muniz who danced to "Soulja Boy," and received cheers and applause from the lively audience.

Dr. Calvin H. Lawrence, who's been an Alpha Phi Alpha brother since 1980, explained the history of stepping. "Stepping involves a combination of great creativity, intelligence, coordination, wit and athleticism." This is the ninth annual step show hosted by the "Sensational" Sigma Epsilon chapter.
