During the Student Government Association meeting on Monday, senate members discussed issues concerning the Texan Cards including how often they are used and how easily they wear out and a student section in the stadium for football games. They also passed Resolution 02-07 F, which recommends to change the core curriculum.
"Because we are requiring students to use their cards more and more and more now, think if you live in the residency halls how many times you swipe it just to get. You are suppose to use that card four years and never get it replaced," said Dr. Wanda Mercer, Vice President of Student Life. " You're carrying it around in your hip pocket because you've got to have it to get into the building, you've got to have it to get in and eat at the dining hall. Anyway, we have got to figure out a way to fix that and we're working on it and its impacting you all and it's a larger issue."
Resolution 02-07 F was voted on at this meeting as well.
Resolution 02-07 F is a recommendation to the school to change the core curriculum by cutting three hours of behavioral science and two hours of wellness. This piece of legislation was approved unanimously by the senate.
Senate members made many suggestions to make a designated student section during football games. It was decided to talk to Coach Lonn Reisman about setting up an official student section where the students could normally sit. This way parents who want to sit down during the game can see and not have a group of people standing in front of them during games.
"A lot of students really feel that we need a designated student section at home football games, one in which nobody but students are allowed to sit in," said SGA member Keith Price, Vice President for University Operations.
The SGA Senate meets on Monday at 5:15 p.m. in TSC Room 219. All Students are welcome to attend.
