Chi Alpha is looking for every student wanting to save money. All that is required is one small investment.

The Chi Alpha discount cards are available for the third year in a row. The discount cards offer substantial savings possibilities as they are useful at 17 local businesses and have unlimited uses. The cards are valid until Aug. 2008 and cost $10.

Chi Alpha has set up one or two booths this semester, but according to Chi Alpha Campus Pastor David Schmit, that's not the only way they sell the cards.

"We set our booths up at the student center," Schmit said, "one or two times a semester, but mainly we just sell them online." The Chi Alpha Web site allows students to view what businesses are participating, the discounts they offer and enables the students to purchase discount cards online.

The businesses that offer discounts are Starbucks, Arby's, Fiddle Creek Steakhouse, Domino's Pizza, Beriyo, Subway, Century Nails, Chicken Express, Castillo's, McDonald's, Taco Casa, Bull Nettle Bar & Grill, Quizno's Subs, La Bella Day Spa, Sonic, and Rangler's Convenience Stores.

"Most students don't carry cash with them … so they can buy online. They can even use Paypal," Schmit said. Students can also use a credit card to purchase the discount cards.

Since the start of school, Chi Alpha has sold approximately 75 to 100 cards. Chi Alpha only prints a limited amount of cards each year, only 300 cards remain for this year.

"We sell them until they are gone," Schmit said. Every year they have some left over, but "… as time goes on, we are selling more and more each year."

The discount cards are similar to credit cards in look and feel, being the same size and made from the same material as a credit card. The cards are durable enough to withstand their year-long lifespan.

The possible savings vary, as there is no cap on uses. How much a person can save is based on how he or she uses their card.

"The sky is the limit, it [the card] can pretty well pay for itself …. If you want to use it at Starbucks everyday, you can use it at Starbucks everyday," Schmit said.

If a student purchases his or her card online before Nov. 1, Chi Alpha is offering free shipping, making the total $10. After Nov. 1, it will cost a total of $10.41 to purchase a discount card online.

The discount card sale is Chi Alpha's primary fundraiser. The funds are used for the organization's normal expenses and to pay for their attendance to the Regional Chi Alpha Leadership Retreat.
