Influenced by the styles of artists such as Santana and Jimmy Page, Daniel Lopez has worked for years to craft his playing ability into what it has become. With a respect for tasteful guitar playing and an ear for improv unmatched by most, Lopez has been playing around the Stephenville area for a number of years.

Lopez, 25, is from Huckabay and says he was first influenced by music like Nirvana, Pink Floyd, and Bob Marley when a friend let him borrow a few compact discs.

"I had never heard music like that before, but I have listened to it ever since," says Lopez. When asked about other influences, he was quick to give the names Jimmy Hendrix and David Gilmore.

At the age of 15 he began his venture into the world of guitar. Lopez recalls his first gig when a friend asked him to play in an FFA talent show. "I had never really played before, but I practiced for about a week and we ended up getting second place."

After high school Lopez met up with Ryan Bingham, currently a Texas musician with Lost Highway Records, and the two played a few shows with artists like Aaron Watson and Phil Pritchett. Being 18 at the time, it was all fairly new to him, but Lopez was rapidly progressing into a well-rounded guitarist.

Through the years he has played with bands such as the Wild Bunch, Mexican Sleigh Ride, and most recently James Black Band. Lopez says he has a very laid back personality that enjoys jamming with friends and anyone who will sit down and play.

Recently, Lopez and The James Black Band played at the Brownwood Reunion where they opened up for Jack Ingram. Lopez said the show was a blast as it was his first time to sign autographs during a meet and greet with the band.

Currently you can see Daniel playing at Bostock's on Sunday evenings and various other venues around the area.
