In June 2006, T2 Systems, a parking management company, the Tarleton University Police Chief and the Executive Director of Information Technology Services decided to change the way parking permits for Tarleton State University were registered and received.
The changes have been said to be "more efficient" for students and faculty at Tarleton.
"I think (parking registration online) is long overdue," said Brady Pendleton, Student Government Association President. "In the past it's been ridiculous, standing in line for 'three hours' to get a parking permit. Now there is no wait time and no hassle."
Starting this semester, registration for parking can be done online. The process starts at the Tarleton Web site homepage.
Under the "Spotlight" section, click "Parking Registration." Shortly after, a window pops open and a big purple banner reads, "Click Here for Parking Permits, Paying Citations and Filing Appeals.
"With one click a student can do just that. Vehicle registration is found under "Manage my Parking Account." In a few days time the student receives the permit in the mail.
Cynthia A. Carter was the chair of the
committee that consisted of two students and 12 representatives, including Carter, from the Development Office, Career Services, Housing and Residence Life, Faculty Senate, Risk Management and Safety, Campus Police, Institutional Advancement, Student Life, Academic Affairs, and Finance and Administration.
"The decision to go to an online medium for parking registration was to provide a more
efficient means for students, faculty, and staff in obtaining their permits and in paying citations," Carter said. "With student growth and university expansion, it was realized that something needed to be done to cut down on the wait time students had when going to the gym to obtain their permits. The University Police Department currently has other products and hardware through the vendor (T2 Systems), and realized that as more people in general move to the online process, that this would be more effective and efficient for individual users at Tarleton."
